Headquartered in San Donato Milanese, next to Milano in Italy, Saipem is a subsidiary of the Italian national oil company ENI S.p.A. (ENI) operating in the engineering and contracting services.

Previoulsy wholly owned, ENI floated 57% of the shares in 1984 in Milan Stock Exchange.

Initiated in 1950 as a simple division in ENI to perform onshore pipelaying, plant construction and drilling, Saipem became a separate company in 1969.

Originally working exclusively for ENI, Saipem diversified its activities in the 1960s with offshore operations in the Mediterranean Sea and the North Sea.

Today, Saipem is one of the largest international and one of the best balanced turnkey contractors operating for the oil and gas companies all over the world for onshore and offshore projects and services well supported by a fleet of services vessels.

Focusing on the upstream and midstream sectors, from heavy crude oil exploration and production, to gas transportation and monetization, Saipem offers the largest spectrum of engineering services capabilities on turn key basis:

In the north of Mexico, Saipem booked a 550 kilometers natural gas pipeline EPC contract from Transportadora de Gas Natural Norte-Noroeste (a wholly-owned Transcanada subsidiary

In Angola, Total awarded the engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of topside modifications for the multiphase pump systems on the Girassol and Dalia FPSOs as part of Girassol expansion with the GirRI (Girassol Resources Initiatives) project in Block 17.

In the Russian Caspian Sea, Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft (Lukoil) selected Saipem for the export pipeline of the Vladimir Filanovsky field. Saipem will also provide the transportation and installation of the ice-resistant fixed platform, living quarter platform, central processing platform and a riser platform.

In Saudi Arabia, Saipem won the Naphtha Reformer and the Aromatics complex package (RP2) for the Petro Rabigh Phase 2 from Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo

In Libya, Saipem is deeply involved to revive the Waha oil and gas production in the Sirte Basin. Before the revolution, Saipem had performed the front end engineering and design (FEED) and now National Oil Company (NOC), ConocoPhillips, Marathon Oil and Hess Corporation are teaming up in the Waha Oil joint venture to ramp it up.

Addressing the most critical applications upstream and midstream, onshore and offshore, Saipem is building up its market leadership in focusing on the national oil companies with its EPC/EPCI industrial model.
